Carlisle business expands to Ship
Dwight Heinzeman believes he knows the right formula for a successful car-rental business.
And when he looked at Shippensburg, the owner of the Carlisle Rent-A-Wreck figured he saw a business opportunity.
"There's no one else in town doing rental" in Shippensburg, says Heinzeman, who is confident that his "small-town-with-a-college" formula will be successful there as it has been in Carlisle.
So earlier this summer he expanded to Shippensburg.
While Heinzeman runs the show in Carlisle, rental agent Sandy Fulton is operating the new Shippensburg office on the west end of town beside Fisher's Auto Parts and across the street from The Treat Restaurant.
She says she has been a Shippensburg resident for the past "29-30 years" and agrees with Heinzeman that, since her town is growing, Shippensburg needs a Rent-A-Wreck like Carlisle and Harrisburg.
"We want to provide a rental service for people's needs: dependable rentals of cars and vans," Fulton says. "We rent used cars and we rent for less money."
Expansion expected
Though the upstart business has a small inventory of three cars to rent, it eventually will have six. And it offers Penske vans through the Carlisle franchise.
"I can always get customers a truck," Fulton says.
She has a decade of automotive service experience from H&H Chevrolet, so she feels she is a good match for the office and can identify with people who simply need to borrow a car.
"You just have to try to accommodate the customer and go out of your way to serve them," she says. "I've come in on a Saturday or a Sunday to rent a car so a man could get home to New Jersey," for instance.
The number for Shippensburg Rent-A-Wreck / Priceless Rent-A-Car is 477-9400.
