Milton Hershey went into Camp Hill with one thing on its mind — defeat the Lions to keep sole possession of first place in the Mid-Penn Capital Division. The Spartans did just that Thursday, winning 43-28. However, the final result was not indicative of the way the two teams wrestled.

Lion Michael Davis decisioned Phillip Thomas 7-5 at 160 pounds to get things started for Camp Hill.

Milton Hershey took the next three matches, all by fall, to open an 18-3 lead. At 171, Alphonso Nathan pinned TJ Carricato in 49 seconds. Johnny Lamboy pinned Denin Trgo in 31 seconds in the 189-pound contest. Donte Blakey pinned John Losh in 1:07 at 215 pounds.

"Coming in, we knew (Milton Hershey) had some tough guys at the higher weight classes," said Camp Hill head coach Chad Gallaher. "We had to do well in the lighter weights to do well."

The Lions got a surprise at 275 pounds when Velibor DivKovic pinned Israel Flemming in 5:35. Divkovic usually wrestles at 215 pounds, but to get a better matchup, Gallaher had him wrestle up.

Divkovic and Flemming grappled the first two minutes with neither gaining the upper hand. Divkovic chose to start the second period down and worked his way out of Flemming's grasp for a 1-0 lead. Neither wrestler could take the other down from neutral, so Flemming started the third round in the down position.

While Flemming could not escape from Divkovic, he earned one point thanks to an illegal hold to tie the match at 1-1. After the restart, Divkovic went on the offensive from the top and managed to flip Flemming to his back. Sensing the fall was near, Divkovic pressed Flemming toward the mat and that was all for Flemming.

"When Velibor picked up the pin at heavyweight, that was huge for us," said Gallaher. "That's what we needed from him, actually, we told everyone we needed bonus points. He gave us a little more then we needed."

Divkovic's win closed the Milton Hershey lead to 18-9, showing the resolve the Lions exhibited all season long. Still, a lot of wrestling remained and the Lions' goal was not to keep the score close, but to win the match.

At 103 pounds, Spartan Mike Tompakov pinned Amaan Ghazaly in 3:05 for a 15-point Milton Hershey lead. With only eight matches remaining, the Lions knew it was a tough road to hoe. But Camp Hill had the lower weights remaining, one of its strengths.

Lion Matt Leggett proved that right off the bat with a pin of Hector Rivera in 1:28 at 112 pounds.

Matt Zangle earned a 12-6 decision over John Fox in the 112-pound contest. Zangle got a quick takedown, but could not hold the upper hand as Fox escaped. Fox found an opening and brought Zangle to the mat for a 3-2 advantage, but Zangle reversed the hold for a 4-3 lead after one round.

Fox started the second round in the down position and escaped about 30 seconds in. But Zangle brought him crashing to the mat a few seconds later, and just as quickly Fox escaped. Zangle had one more takedown to end the second round and held an 8-4 advantage.

Zangle chose neutral to start the third round and brought Fox to the mat a fourth time. Fox escaped once again, only to have Zangle take him to the mat one last time.

The wins continued for the Lions. At 125, it was Ben Zurflieh with an 11-2 major decision over Freddie Ramos. Garrett Rini pinned Amadu Chebli in 5:26 at 130 pounds. After the Rini pin, Camp Hill led 28-24 with only four matches left.

But those four matches spelled doom for the Lions. Milton Hershey's Devin Nelson won a 12-5 decision over Tyler Wolfe in the 135-pound bout to cut the Lion lead to 28-27. At 140 pounds, Brent Keeno, wrestling with a broken hand, pinned Derek Delancey in 3:04 to vault the Spartans to a 33-28 lead. Eric Rush continued Milton Hershey's run with a pin of Paul Wagenman in 1:30 of the 145-pound contest. Rush's win pushed the Spartan lead to 39-28 and ensured a Milton Hershey division championship.

"This is (Milton Hershey's) first championship since 1986," said Spartan head coach Andy Alesse. "It's really special because (the coaches) have seen all of these kids grow up in our wrestling program. We knew it was going to be a battle all season long, and it all came to a head (Thursday). It's a great way for us to wrap up the championship against a good team like Camp Hill."

Milton Hershey's Andrew Osborne won a 13-1 major decision over Justin Losh at 152 pounds to end the meet.
