Dickens Days parade rescheduled for Saturday evening

The Dickens Days Christmas Parade, which was postponed Friday, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in Shippensburg. 

The parade will form on Fayette Street, travel up King Street and disperse onto Prince Street.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 7:45 p.m. at Vigilant Fire Company at the corner of Prince and King streets.

After the parade, Santa will be available for visits at the Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce, 22 E. King St.

Orrstown Bank will be offering carriage rides, free wassail and cookies after the parade and tree lighting. There will be food vendors on King Street on Saturday offering baked goods, cookies and Christmas gift items.

The merchant door-prize boxes are currently at the participating businesses and will be available for shoppers to stop by and register for gift certificates throughout the week until after the parade.

The collectible church postcards with recipes are also in the participating businesses. These cards also are available to shoppers throughout the week until after the parade. There are 12 cards in the series. 

Participating sponsors are Advantage Chem Dry; Blue Mountain Gallery; Cumberland Garage Doors; East Meets West; Georgian House; King Street Carpet Outlet; Market Cross Pub; Pague & Fegan Hardware; The Lollipop Shop; The Tuscan Oven; The Victorian Corner; Towne Cleaners & CVR Rental.  Each participating merchant has a different collectible postcard. 

The 12 churches on the postcards are  Mt. Rock Church, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, the Oasis of Love Church, Prince Street United Brethren Church, Grace United Church of Christ, Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg Church of the Brethren, Shippensburg Church of Christ, Christ United Methodist Church, Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, First Assembly of God of Shippensburg, and Oakville United Methodist Church.

The Shippensburg Historical Society will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday to show the exhibit, “Christmas Past”.
