A New Cumberland man who authorities said distributed mass quantities of marijuana in the Harrisburg area was arrested, the state attorney general announced Thursday.

Michael “Myagi” Hite’s mother, Carolyn Hite of Harrisburg, also was arrested for hiding 28 pounds of marijuana in her home, authorities said.

Attorney General Tom Corbett said the investigation began in January 2006 after Bureau of Narcotics Investigation agents got information about a marijuana dealer selling pounds of the drug in the Harrisburg area. A statewide investigating grand jury heard evidence and testimony about drug activity and recommended that criminal charges be filed.

The grand jury found that Michael Hite, 35, of the first block of Springers Lane, used his mother’s home as a “stash house” to store marijuana. He sold the drugs for $700 to $800 per pound, agents said.

The grand jury said agents made five controlled purchases from Hite between March 2006 and January 2007 and paid him more than $8,500 for 12 pounds of marijuana. Agents searched Carolyn Hite’s home on Jan. 10 and found a large plastic tub, buckets and a gym bag filled with marijuana in the basement.

A search of Michael Hite’s New Cumberland home also yielded $1,580 in cash, including “buy money” used in a controlled purchase a few days before, agents said.

He is charged with five counts of delivery of marijuana and one count each of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, criminal conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver marijuana and criminal use of a communications facility.

Authorities say the two will be arraigned before Dauphin County Magisterial District Judge Marsha Stewart and the case will be prosecuted in Dauphin County by Deputy Attorney General Heather Adams.
