Bicycle accident leaves women in critical condition
A Carlisle area woman was in critical condition this morning at Hershey Medical Center after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle Monday night in Dickinson Township.
State police at Carlisle say Carol Bouch, 51, was transported by helicopter to Hershey following the 7:17 p.m. accident in the 200 block of Burnthouse Road. It was unknown whether she was wearing a helmet.
Police say Justin Swartz, 21, of Carlisle was driving a 1993 Saturn coupe north on Burnthouse Road when the vehicle began to swerve violently as it approached Aston Street.
The Saturn continued north, swerving on and off the road, until it struck Bouch, who was also traveling north on Burnthouse in the area of Alexander Spring Road, police say.
Bouch was thrown from her bicycle, while the Saturn hit a tree and came to rest, according to police. Swartz was not hurt and his vehicle was towed from the scene with moderate damage.
Police are still investigating.
