Local Racing: Calaman keeps up winning ways

Dave Calaman continued his winning ways Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.

 The Carlisle driver piloted the Godfrey Motorsports sprinter to its fourth victory of the season in the Firecracker 30 for 358 Sprints at the track. It was his second career win in that event and was worth $1,500.

Calaman started sixth on the grid and powered his way to the front early, taking the second spot from Phil Walter on lap three.

 Calaman then drove by leader Len Krautheim on the fifth lap and set sail on the big half mile.

Despite several late yellows and a fuel stop, Calaman took the win ahead of Phil Walter, track points leader Blane Heimbach, Mike Walter and Carlisle's Jason Shultz. Pat Cannon finished sixth in the Zane and Vicki Highlands owned car.

Dover's Coleby Frye captured his first win of the year in the 25-lap late model feature over Jeff Rine, Jim Yoder, Jeff Smith and Billy Marvin. Frank Reisser won the pro stocks and Keith Bissinger took the roadrunner win.

EICHELBERGER WINS GROVE FIRST

Aaron Eichelberger joined his father Rich as a winner at Williams Grove Speedway after running away with Saturday night's 20-lap Super Sportsman feature.

The young Dillsburg driver started on the front row and was never challenged in his first career Grove victory. Paul Miller finished second after starting 11th over Glenn Keller, Mike Enders and John Stehman with Summerdale's JR Fry sixth over Duaine Smith, Chris Reed, Dillsburg's Ryan Rupp and Dillsburg's Rich Eichelberger. Enola's John Stoner was 14th, Mechanicsburg's Dave Berkheimer 16th, Mechanicsburg's Steve Wilbur 19th, Summerdale's Jason Fry 20th and Carlisle's Frankie Herr 24th after a crash.

Tyler Armstrong became the first repeat winner in 358 late model action winning over Bob Dunn, Tyler Hershey, Larry Baer and Travis Mease. Shippensburg's Jerry Bard was 11th and Shermansdale's Shaun Jones 15th.

Michael Wagner captured the PA 305 Sprint car feature win after coming from his eighth starting spot.  He took the lead from Carlisle's Jim Wentz on lap seven and then held the late race challenges of Wentz for the win with Dillsburg's Todd Spangler third, Craig Robinson fourth and Randy Kaylor fifth. Boiling Springs' Craig Laudermilch finished 12th and Carlisle's Jason Brandt 24th.

Dave Motter won the street stock feature over Carlisle's Rodney Clouser, Gary Welsh, Randy Allen and Adam Gutshall. Shippensburg's Randy Patterson was 10th.

STIMELING TAKES FIRST PORT WIN

Lewistown's Daryl Stimeling made a final lap pass on Rick Lafferty to score the 410 Sprint win Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. Defendning track champion Mike Erdley was second over Lafferty, Alan Cole and Keith Kauffman with Kevin Nouse sixth in the Bryan Golden owned entry and Todd Shaffer eighth in the Gary Beam owned car.

Jere Wierman was the late model winner over Scott Flickinger, Mitch Hack, Scott Haus and Tim Wilson while Tim Krape won another pro stock main over Derick Garman and Terry Naugle.

A NEW BILLET WINS

A new Billet found his way to Victory lane Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway.

 Following in the footsteps of his father Carl, Steve Billet used a final lap pass to secure his first career 358 late model win at SSP.

 Jeremy Knoll finished second over Carlisle's Carl Billet, Shermansdale's Jake Jones and Carlisle's Scott Richwine. Paul Morgan won for the second time in street stock action over Wes Alleman, Carlisle's Brian Hauenstein, Steve Dove and Scott Thunberg and it was Sam Rial in Xtreme Stock action over Mike Goodwin. 

TEEN TOPS TRAILWAY

New Cumberland teenager Austin Reed outraced another teenage to the checkered flag in Friday's 358 Sprint car main at Trail-Way Speedway.

 Reed led the entire distance but had to hold off Aaron Ott and defending track champ Jeff Rohrbaugh before scoring his first ever win. Ott actually clipped Reed at the checkered flag sending the winner spinning in turn one.

Fourth went to Brad McClelland over Billy Dietrich.

 Craig Wagaman won for a fifth time in thundercar action while Dan Furman captured his third straight street stock feature win.

STUHLER BACK ON TOP

Gary Stuhler has been shut out of victory lane for a few weeks but he returned to his winning ways Saturday at Hagerstown Speedway.

Stuhler won the 25-lap late model feature, his 122nd career and it came in a non stop event that time in just under 10 minutes.

 Paul Crowl came on late and finished a close second over Bo Feathers, Les Hare and JT Spence. Loysville's Travis Dillman was 11th and Shermansdale's Mike Lupfer did not qualify.

Richard Walls won the late model sportsman feature over James Myers, Terry Flaherty, Pete Weaver and Barry Miller while Darrin Younker picked up the pure stock win. Krazy Kenny Thomas won the Enduro over Carlisle's Jim Smith while Shippensburg's Charlie Pensinger came home tenth.

LANIGAN TOPS PORT OUTLAWS

 Darrell Lanigan bested a strong field of late models to win Wednesday night's World of Outlaws late model event at the Port Royal Speedway.

The biggest crowd of the season saw Lanigan outrun York's Rick Eckert for the $7,000 prize. Third went to Josh Richards over Chub Frank and Clint Smith. The highest finishing local driver was Travis Dillman in seventh place.

 Andy Fries won the 358 late model feature at the Port.

OTHER WEEKEND ACTION

Michael Carber captured his first ever URC Sprint car win Saturday at New Egypt Speedway over Brian Seidel, Kevin Welsh, Randy West and Mark Bitner.

Jack Pencil won for the 50th time in his career Friday at Bedford Speedway over Chris Harr, Dave Troutman, Eric Zembower and Greg Fetters. Newville's Donnie Farling finished 13th in Bedford limited late model action.

Michael Heckman and Mike Freet split 305 Sprint wins Friday at Path Valley Speedway. Laudermilch finished runner-up to Freet with Brandt ninth and Mark Watkins was second to Heckman with Laudermilch sixth and Brandt 11th.

Jim Brookens was the 600 Micro Sprint winner over Ryan Greth, Tyler DeVault, Enola's Jake Murphy and Rodney Glass. Mechanicsburg's Chad Hough was 12th and Carlisle's Greg Kone 13th. Newville's Timmie Barrick was 17th.

Justin Grosz was the 270 Micro winner over Matt Bower and Sean McAndrew.

Kyle Moody won for the first ever time in Trail-Way 600 Micro Sprint action Saturday over Aaron Spahr, Scott Urey, Jeremy Lynch and Rick Stief. Dillsburg's Brianna Hershey finished eighth, Shippensburg's Dwayne Gutshall 12th, Barrick 16th and Mt Holly's Ricky Stonebraker 23rd.

Nathan Melton won the 270 Feature over Nik Gower and Mike Boyer.

 Bo Gordon was the 600 Micro Sprint winner at Shippensburg Speedway over Chris Crull, Josh Lesher, Dustin Foust and Ryan Hook.
