Pennsylvania Speedweek: Shaffer takes checkered after starting fourth
BECHTELSVILLE --- Todd Shaffer finally conquered Grandview Speedway.
The Millerstown driver had never won at the Bechtelsville oval until Tuesday night when he piloted the Gary and Patty Beam-owned No. 88 JEI to the victory in the 35-lap Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Speedweek feature event. Shaffer started fourth on the grid and raced down leader Chad Layton on the 11th lap to take the top spot.
Once Shaffer got out front, he set sail around the bullring for his first ever win at the track. The win was his fifth career Pennsylvania Speedweek win as well. Mechanicsburg' s Lucas Wolfe was second ahead of Fayetteville' s Lance Dewease, Thomasville' s Greg Hodnett and Harrisburg' s Chad Layton.
Completing the top 10 were Stevie Smith, Kevin Nouse, Brian Montieth, Alan Krimes and Brian Leppo.
After the third night of Speedweek, Hodnett continues to lead the Speedweek points with 438 points. Wolfe is second with 429 followed by Stevie Smith with 397, Shaffer with 358 and Keith Kauffman with 323. The top 10 are Layton (316), Dewease (315), Leppo (302), Nouse (267) and Doug Esh (259). Speedweek continues tonight at Hagerstown Speedway. Complete Grandview story will appear in Thursday' s Sentinel.
