The 44th All-American Dairy Show is promising to be the biggest and best, said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff.

Set for Sept. 15-21 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, the show is preparing to feature exhibits, youth shows and contests, and nearly 2,700 animals from 25 states during 23 shows.

“The All-American Dairy Show provides the perfect opportunity to showcase Pennsylvania's number one agricultural segment - the dairy industry,” said Wolff. “Each show tops the previous years', and this year will be no different as it features youth programs, an antiques show and new activities like the ‘Blue Ribbon' processor event and career night.”

‘Stars of Parade'

Other show highlights will include “Stars on Parade,” the Premier National Junior Events, Sept.16-18, that will host more than 1,000 youth and include seven national-level dairy junior shows, dairy judging, national level showmanship contest and a junior dairy management contest. The supreme champion of the show will be selected at 3 p.m. on Sept. 17.

Back for its 10th year, the Sept. 15-19 All-Dairy Antiques and Collectibles Show - the only one if its kind in the country - will feature the Red & White breed. A show preview is Sept. 14.

A new addition to career night, Sept. 16, is a panel of industry representatives that will offer youth insight about choosing and preparing for a dairy career. Colleges, universities and trade show exhibitors can meet potential students and employees during career night.

On-farm retailing

Another new feature of the show is the “Blue Ribbon Cows Make Blue Ribbon Cheese, Ice Cream and More” event Sept. 17 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., which will showcase value-added processing and on-farm retailing. Visitors can taste products and learn how farmers market and process their own dairy products.

The show will also host a tour of Mason-Dixon Farms in Gettysburg, Sept. 16, which uses the latest in robotic milking and other cutting-edge technologies.

Those who enjoy looking at some of the best cattle in the country can watch the seven national open breed shows from Sept. 18-20. The selection of the supreme champion culminates the week's activities at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20.

Dairy enthusiasts are also reminded that the 51st Pennsylvania Dairy Princess Banquet and Coronation is scheduled for Sept. 29 at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel, Camp Hill.

The show is open to the public with free admission and parking. Wireless Internet service is available in the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center. For more information, visit www.allamerican.state.pa.us or call 717-787-2905.
