Article RatingHARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said Thursday it will hold eight meetings in November to provide information about and to hear the public’s response to a plan to impose tolls on Interstate 80.
Each meeting will feature a four-hour open house period with two formal presentations, display materials and handouts.
The meetings will be at Clarion High School and Clearfield Area High School on Nov. 7, Bellefonte Area Middle School and DuBois Country Club on Nov. 8, Milton Area High School and Mountain Laurel Resort in White Haven on Nov. 12, and Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg and Grove City College on Nov. 19.
The turnpike commission would manage the tolls under a long-term lease with the state Transportation Department. Legislation that passed the General Assembly in July permits up to 10 toll collection sites to raise billions of dollars for the state’s transportation needs.
The toll plan requires approval from federal regulators and has attracted heated opposition from people who live along the interstate corridor.
