Article RatingJason Shultz will be living a dream when the 2008 racing season kicks off.
The Carlisle driver will be piloting Tom Fromm’s No. 9 sprint car on the tough Pennsylvania Posse 410 Sprint car circuit.
After successful stints in the 305 sprint division, then in the 358 sprints, Shultz will be the driver for the first year 410 sprint car team.
Fromm has been involved in racing for several seasons most recently owning a 358 sprint car that Frankie Herr won numerous times in. But it’s time for the next step.
“Last season, the team wanted to race more and during the summer, the Grove was off for a month or so and Frankie was committed to the Sportsman deal, so they asked me to drive the car from time to time,” said Shultz, 30. “We were pretty competitive and were trying to figure things out and they asked me about moving up to the 410’s and that’s always been a goal of mine so it was a pretty easy decision.”
The team thought out whether a return to the 358 division or moving to the 410’s was the answer.
“Tom’s wanted to try a 410 and after weighing out the options of what direction to go, it just seemed easier to go ahead and take the step rather than waiting another year or two.”
The team plans to compete regularly at Port Royal Speedway with visits to other area tracks as funds permit.
Shultz, the 2004 Selinsgrove Speedway champion is thrilled for the opportunity to be the hired gun for the car. There will be no monetary pay involved.
“I see a lot of paid drivers and paid mechanics around and it doesn’t seem like the teams hold up,” he said. “I’m considering this being a paid ride because I’ve always paid for my own team all my life and I’m just fortunate to have Tom have faith in me and want me to drive the car. It’s a dream come true.”
The team is currently seeking sponsors to help the team through the season.
Williams Grove News
Sutliff Cadillac Hummer and Sutliff Saturn, Inc., both of Mechanicsburg have signed on as the new title sponsor for the Super Sportsman tour for the 2008 season at Williams Grove Speedway.
Sutliff has been involved in some capacity at the track for years and will provide pace vehicles for the track again next season.
The Sportsman will again headline the Saturday Night Series at the Grove with 22 appearances on the schedule -- 17-of-the-22 shows will be during the SNS. It will be the most races for the division ever at the track.
Ground was broken on Monday for all new lighting on the front stretch at the Grove. Track management is installing new, state of the art Musco lighting that should be in place for the 2008 Friday night opener. It will make a huge difference, no doubt about it. ...

Fred Rahmer, Cory Haas and Duane Watson were recently honored as 2007 Lincoln Speedway champions at its banquet. Special awards in the 410 Sprints went to Dennis Kohler (Mechanic), Steve Buckwalter (Rookie), Jeff Busby (Most Improved) and Brian Leppo (Sportsmanship). Special awards in the 358 sprints were given to Gerard McIntyre, Jr. (Rookie), Chad Criswell (Sportsmanship) and Jay Galloway (Most Improved) while thundercar awards went to Scott Fisher (Rookie), Greg Emlet, Jr. (Sportsmanship) and Gino Comi (Most Improved). ...
