Driver charged with DUI
North Middleton Township police charged a driver who crashed in the parking lot of a convenience store early on New Year’s Day.
Police said Steven Caramella, 18, of Carlisle, passed out in his 1991 Dodge pickup while driving on North Hanover Street, left his lane of travel, struck another vehicle and went up over the curb at the Hess Express, ending in the parking lot at 2:26 a.m.
Caramella smelled of alcohol and was unresponsive and vomiting when police arrived at the Hess Express, police say.
Caramella was transported by EMS to the Carlisle Regional Medical Center, and both his truck and the car he struck had to be towed from the scene, according to police.
He is charged with DUI, consumption of alcohol by a minor and careless driving. Charges were filed with District Judge Paula Correal.
Man charged for weapons, DUI
State police at Newport responded to a one-vehicle crash at the 200 block of Schoolhouse Road in Penn Township on Tuesday at 12:09 a.m. and found the driver to be in possession of a firearm without a permit, according to police.
William T. Lewis, 41, of Duncannon, was a convicted felon and driving under the influence at the time, police say.
Lewis is charged with convicted felons not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a permit and DUI.
Simple assault charge filed
John W. Sipe, 26, of Carlisle was charged with simple assault when he attacked Nathan R. Swift, 25 of Wiconisco on Christmas at 9:30 p.m., according to state police at Newport.
Sipe was intoxicated at the time and angry about an argument Swift had with the mother of Sipe’s child, who is now dating Swift, police say.
Sipe choked Swift and threatened to kill him, according to police.
Charges will be filed before District Judge Howell.
One hurt in crash
One person was hurt in a one-vehicle crash on Williams Grove Road at West Lisburn Road in Monroe Township on Monday at 9:26 p.m., according to state police at Carlisle.
Keith Yeomans, 18, of Carlisle, lost control of his vehicle on snow-covered roads, hitting an embankment, police say.
Yeomans was uninjured, but a 16-year-old female passenger from Mechanicsburg suffered unknown injuries, according to police.
Vandal sought
Eggs were thrown at a van and residence in the 400 block of D Street in Carlisle at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to call Carlisle police at 243-5252.
