Margaret Stuski added her name Wednesday to the sea of candidates vying to replace retiring state Rep. Jerry Nailor, R-88.

But unlike the other six candidates, Stuski is a Democrat.

In announcing her candidacy, the Wormleysburg resident touted her experience and independent voice.

Economic, education and environmental issues are her focus, she said.

“We need a strong voice for our community that is able to be independent and work with all parties to find solutions to pressing economic issues that are affecting our quality of life, not just to engage in partisan politics,” Stuski said.

Senate, AG experience

Stuski formerly worked as counsel on the bipartisan impeachment trial of Rolf Larsen, a former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice. She also has constituent and consumer protection experience through her work with the Pennsylvania Senate and Office of Attorney General.

Stuski ran against Nailor in 2006 and lost by nearly 10,000 votes in the heavily Republican district. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University Law School.

She joins Republicans Lowell Gates, Matthew Seagrist, Ian Hayes, Sheryl Delozier, William Cornell and Michael Hancock in the race to succeed Nailor, who is retiring after 20 years in office.

No other Democrat has announced for the race so far.

The 88th district comprises Lemoyne, Lower Allen, Upper Allen, New Cumberland, Shiresmantown, Mechanicsburg, Monroe and Wormleysburg’s 1st precinct.
