The Franklin County Planning Department and the Greencastle-Antrim School District Art Department are seeking entries in their first Farmland Preservation Art Contest.

Works by artists of all ages are sought and will be displayed from March 31 through April 10 at the Norlo Park Community Building, 3050 Lincoln Way East in Fayetteville.

The art show, the creation of Greencastle/Antrim High School art teacher Carolyn Baker, is being held to further awareness of the importance of preserving farmland in Franklin County. Farmland preservation is one of the primary goals of the Franklin County Comprehensive Plan.

Grand prize

The grand prize will be $250.00. The winner’s artwork will be used by the Farmland Preservation Board for advertisements and posters.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, at the Norlo Park Community Building.

The Franklin County Agricultural Land Preservation Board and the Planning Department, one of the co-sponsors of the event, will be providing the grand prize.

There will be additional prizes awarded for elementary, middle school, and high school. Members of the ag board will assist with judging the entries.

Entries

All art media on paper or canvas may be used; digital art and photography will also be accepted. 3-D pieces will not be accepted. All artwork and images must be original work. All images incorporated in art pieces must be the artist’s own work and not lifted from other publications or outside sources. Artwork must not be framed: all entries except canvas should be matted in black or white with a hanging device. Art work should be no smaller than 8” x 10”, no larger than 15” x 20”, including matting. Artwork will be judged on overall impact, effectiveness in conveying the theme, originality, and artistic merit. Winning entries become the property of the Franklin County Agricultural Land Preservation Board.

All artwork must be received by March 10 and should be delivered to Greencastle-Antrim High School, Attn: Carolyn Baker, 300 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, PA 17225.

All artwork must be picked up between 4-6 p.m. April 11 at Norlo Park in Chambersburg.
