HS Roundup: Ship takes third
The Shippensburg wrestling team finished third out of five teams in Saturday morning’s Franklin County Tournament by scoring 135 team points. The Greyhounds finished four points behind Waynesboro (139) and 27 points behind Chambersburg, the tournament champion.
Shippensburg had two first-place finishers, Russell Davidson (130) and Shane McFerren (189).
Other top finishers for the Greyhounds included Hunter Kyner (103, second), Craig Gunderson (135, second), Will Lloyd (152, second), Kyle Varner (160, second), Cody Lehman (215, second), Zach Stouffer (112, third), Grant Spear (125, third), Mike Lloyd (140, third), Dexter Horst (145, third), Justin Varner (171, third), Bryce Corman (189, third) and Tyler Fairchild (285, third).
Boys’ Basketball
Indian Valley 59, Shippensburg 55
The Shippensburg boys’ basketball team led Indian Valley 27-25 at halftime, but couldn’t hold on in Saturday night’s 59-55 loss to the Warriors.
Craig Van Scyoc led the Greyhounds (13-8) with 17 points while Whit Crabtree scored 16. Ricky Ott chipped in with 12 points.
Swimming
Ship competes at Polar Bear Plunge
The Shippensburg swimming team earned two first-place finishes at the Polar Bear Plunge, hosted by Northern High School on Saturday.
Susan Bodde won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:30.05 while also taking second place in the 100 backstroke (1:16.61). Sinea Slattery won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:16.12.
Other top finishers for the Greyhounds included Ashley Stanton (fourth in 500 freestyle), J.J. Jenkins (fifth in 50 free), Kyle Hilbinger (second in 100 butterfly, fourth in 100 backstroke) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Bodde, Ivy Eliff, Hailey Freeman, Vicki Delis, who took fourth place.
