SAIS winter festival is Friday
Shippensburg Area Intermediate School will host its first Winter Festival from 5-8:30 p.m. Friday. The event was postponed last week because of snow.
Sponsored by the SAIS PTO, the festival is a family event that is open to the public. It will feature food, carnival games and prizes, a silent auction, an inflatable slide and climbing wall, crafts, and student art exhibits.
Music will be provided by the fifth-grade band (5 p.m.), sixth-grade jazz band (6 p.m.) and fifth-grade orchestra (7 p.m.), and bingo games will run from 6-7:30 p.m.
The school will be open for both guided and self-guided tours from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Guided tours will be offered by students for the first hour, and by teachers and PTO volunteers for the second half of the evening.
In addition, wooden replicas of SAIS will be on sale, and local youth organizations will be on hand to distribute information about the programs they offer. A bake sale is also planned.
Bidding for silent auction items will open at 5 p.m. and close at 7:15 p.m. Among the items that will be up for bid are gift certificates to restaurants, gift cards for auto maintenance and groceries, tickets to the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center, music lessons, jewelry, books, professional photos, candles, doggie donut beds, SAIS principal for a day, and baskets with themes like cooking, auto care, reading and scrapbooking.
Proceeds will benefit the SAIS PTO, which provides money for student programs and activities, field trips and playground equipment.
