By tomorrow, you may not be able to recognize this web site you're reading.

That's a good thing.

Thanks to some hard work over the past few months from Webmaster George Shickler, Online Sales and Development Manager Erica Peterson and Online Producer Brenda Garland, www.cumberlink.com will debut its new look Tuesday around 6:30 a.m.

It's a plan we hope will be beneficial to our web viewers.

Our ongoing goal is to provide Cumberlink viewers the things they want to see on a daily basis. That includes timely updates on local and state news, interesting news items, traffic updates, weather updates, school closings and as much local content as we can feed you.

We want this site to be a source where you can go and find out what is happening in Cumberland County and the mid-state on an hourly basis. We will also add in our mix of comment and commentary with Lunchtime Blogs, Five Questions and Sentinel ShortCuts (brief informational or opinion-based items like this), original content we will provide on a daily basis.

And that takes us back to this redesign. It's purpose is to make navigating our site easier for you through improved layout and additional content. The navigation bar will appear along the top of the page, with easy access to all of your favorite sections, as well as our new Yahoo! web search option.

On the home page our major local stories will be featured in the top left corner. Under this is a link of “breaking news”, or what we like to call “news now” stories. You will also find a multimedia player that is your link to video and slideshows on the site.

You can probably expect some down time around 5:30 p.m. today as we transfer to this new site, meaning some online forms and tools may not be available during the transition.

That's just a minor obstacle to what we believe will be a better Web site, one that hopefully makes it easier for you to check out what we have to offer.

Feel free to offer comments and suggestions about our site when it goes live to jpratt@cumberlink.com.
