Heimbach back in top form with win
Blane Heimbach is back.
It didn’t take long for the young Selinsgrove racer to return to Victory lane following a late season broken leg as he captured his first win of the season in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 Sprint car main at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Heimbach’s win was big in a few ways.
Not only was a big return to victory lane for himself, but he gave car owner Jeff Creasy his 200th career victory as a car owner.
Creasy has fielded sprint cars for Stevie Smith and Danny Jones as well as Heimbach for seven seasons. The three drivers won 121 sprint car mains for Creasy. The remainder of the wins came in the form of mini sprint and micro sprints.
Heimbach started fifth and powered by leader Kyle Bachman on the fifth lap and never looked back enroute to his 22nd career Selinsgrove win.
Pat Cannon moved into second spot on lap 23 but fell short of Heimbach’s winning pace by more than a half a second. It was the second straight Selinsgrove runner-up for the Highlands team.
Third went to Davie Franek over Joey Borich and defending track champion Dave Calaman of Carlisle.
Steve Campbell recorded his first Selinsgrove late model win in over ten years after inheriting the lead on lap 17 from Tony Adams.
Campbell, a former Port Royal regular then defeated Dustin Hoffman, Eric Hons, Luke Hoffner and Brett Schadel for the win.
Chad Davis became the third different pro stock winner this season at the track with a win over Jace Cresswell and AJ Hoffman while Keith Bissinger repeated in roadrunner competition over Matt Drum and Chris Herman.
SHEPARD TOPS PORT
After finishing second to Todd Shaffer in last week’s opener at Port Royal Speedway, Jeff Shepard turned the tables and outran Shaffer Saturday night for the 25-lap 410 Sprint car win at the track.
The two started on the front row as Shaffer led lap one before giving way to the Upperco, Maryland driver a lap later. Shepard then survived the rough track surface before capturing his sixth career win at the Juniata County track.
Shaffer, Mark Smith, Mike Erdley and Greg Hodnett were the top five finishers.
Scott Haus returned to victory lane with a 20 lap win in the late model feature as he scored the win over Nick Dickson, Matt Parks, Waylon Wagner and Scott Flickinger.
Tim Krape repeated in pro stock action over Terry Naugle and Derick Casner.
DEESE RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE
Roy Deese, Jr. is consistently one of the top finishers every weekend at Hagerstown Speedway but it’s been a long time since the five-time speedway champion was able to visit victory lane.
Deese ended that long dry spell with a thrilling 25-lap late model win on Saturday night in the first points race of the season.
Deese started on the front row and held veteran Gary Stuhler at bay during the entire 25 lap distance, winning by .47 seconds.
Stuhler, JT Spence, last week’s winner Jim Yoder up from 12th and Scott LeBarron completed the top five finishers.
Richard Walls came out on top of a race long side by side battle with 16-year-old Dylan Yoder before capturing his 25th career win in the 20-lap late model sportsman main.
Yoder, the son of late model racer Jim Yoder held on for the runner-up spot followed by Pete Weaver, Nick Pappas and Cody Lear with Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard sixth and Shaun Jones 16th in the Bard team-car.
Dale Hollidge won the pure stock main over Hans Stamberg and Darrin Younker as Shippensburg driver Charlie Pensinger finished 21st.
HOUGH TOPS SIDEWINDERS
In just his third start aboard his No. 10 Sidewinders 1000cc Micro Sprint, Mechanicsburg’s Chad Hough outran a tough field of competitors to score his first win Saturday night at Trail-Way Speedway.
Hough, a two year veteran of 600cc micro action, started third in the event and led the entire 20 lap distance in his family owned sprinter. It was his second career win.
Shawn Seifert finished second over Tim Mertz, Brent Marks and Ryan Greth.
Tim Glatfelter raced home the winner of the 20-lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature at Trail-Way winning over Isaac Sneeringer, Shippensburg’s Dwayne Gutshall, Brent Marks and Tyler Walton. Enola’s Ben Murphy finished sixth and Tim Dietz seventh in the Dan Little car out of Newville.
Sean McAndrew captured the win in the 20-alp 270cc Micro Sprint feature over Jim Still, Cody Philips, Nik Gower and Todd Hoover.
DEWEASE TOPS ALL STARS
Fayetteville’s Lance Dewease took advantage of leader Byron Reed’s part failure late in the race and turned it into a $5,000 victory in Saturday night’s O’Reilly All Star Sprint car event at Ohio’s Attica Raceway Park.
Dewease gave way to Reed on lap during the halfway mark and was showing the fast way around the track that he has dominated when a ruptured O-Ring in the fuel line sent him to the pits.
Dewease led the final laps of the event for his first All Star win of the season and put him on top of the $50,000 to win point chase.
Dale Blaney finished second over Dean Jacobs, Greg Wilson and Ed Lynch Jr.
WEEKEND NOTES
Bo Gordon won for the second straight week in Shippensburg Speedway 600cc Micro sprint action over Zach Newlin, Brandon Yarlett, Jeremy Glass and John Baker. Other track wins went to RT Bulger in the thunder rear class and Eddie Kirby in mini stocks.
Friday night racing at Williams Grove, Path Valley and TrailWay Speedway’s was all rained out. It was the third cancellation of the year at the Grove while TrailWay’s race was to be its first 358 Sprint car Friday night program.
