Despite rape allegations dropped against his client former Cumberland County Commissioner Bruce Barclay, attorney Matthew Gover plans on continuing to cooperate with police.

“We’ll be cooperating to an extent,” Gover said, adding he would be unwilling to cooperate in anything that would “jeopardize the well-being of my client.”

The comment came about after William Marshall McCurdy, 20, was charged with making a false accusation against Barclay.

McCurdy, a resident of Berks County, was also a former student at Messiah College.

“We can confirm that William McCurdy was a student at Messiah College,” said Beth Lorow, assistant director of public relations. “Our records show that he enrolled in the fall 2006 semester.”

McCurdy was an arts management major and completed three semesters before voluntarily withdrawing at the end of the fall 2007 semester, Lorow said.

“Messiah College has not been contacted by authorities or involved with this investigation at this point,” Lorow said. Speaking about 9:30 a.m. Friday, Lorow said she had not yet heard any reaction from the campus to the news.

The Reading Eagle reports that McCurdy is a 2006 graduate from Governor Mifflin High School and an Eagle Scout.

McCurdy had reported the alleged rape to Upper Allen Township police on March 31, starting the investigation and causing Barclay to resign on April 2.

While McCurdy’s report has been thrown out, state police are still investigating items seized from Barclay’s residence that revealed he had videotaped hundreds of sexual encounters using hidden cameras.

Court documents state the cameras were installed in January 2007, and police had prior information before the seizure of such devices.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to police.
