Article RatingIt didn’t take Mike Enders long to return to victory lane.
A week after winning his first ever Super Sportsman feature at Lincoln Speedway, Enders came back to win Saturday night’s 20-lap Super Sportsman event at Williams Grove Speedway.
Enders turned a front-row starting spot into victory and became the first repeat winner this season on the Sportsman tour.
Under the new Musco lighting, Enders kept fellow front-row starter Carmen Perigo, Jr. behind him during the entire distance before scoring the win. He was never seriously challenged.
Perigo was second followed by Summerdale’s J. R. Fry, Dillsburg’s Rich Eichelberger and Carlisle’s Frankie Herr with Mechanicsburg’s Derek Lock, Gregg Foster, Doug Hendricks, Scott Dellinger and Steve Fannasy the top 10 finishers.
Mechanicsburg’s Steve Wilbur finished 16th, Dillsburg’s Aaron Eichelberger 17th, Carlisle’s Jake Raudabaugh 20th, Newville’s Russ Mitten 22nd and Summerdale’s Jason Fry 23rd.
Bruce Kane captured a career-first 20 lap 358 late model feature win at the Grove after inheriting the lead on lap 17 when leader Jake Lettich spun in fluid dropped on the speedway surface by another car. Lettich was sent to the rear of the field and Kane went onto the win over Bobby Beard, Gene Knaub, defending track champion Tyler Hershey and Pat Beard. Newville’s Dave Sokoloski was 10th.
Harrisburg’s Kory Sites picked up the season-opening win in the street stock feature over Newville’s Jim Salisbury, Newville’s Rodney Clouser, Doug Hoffman and Dave Motter while Dave Leidy scored the 4-cylinder stock car win over John Stoll, Jr., Mike Buckley, Ed Hollenbach and Dale Kreiser.
CANNON SCORES AGAIN
After two straight runner-up finishes at Selinsgrove Speedway, Pat Cannon finally drove to victory lane in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 Sprint car main.
Aboard the Zane and Vicki Highlands owned No. 3, Cannon came from the 11th starting spot to take the lead from his younger brother Steve on lap 14 and drove off from the field for his fifth career Selinsgrove win and second overall this season.
Defending track champion Dave Calaman of Carlisle finished in the runner-up spot followed by Larry Kelleher, Steve Cannon and 12th place starter Blane Heimbach.
Dustin Hoffman picked up the 25-lap late model win over Tony Adams, Jeff Smith, Jeff Rine and Brett Schadel while Troy Miller recorded his second pro stock win over A.J. Stroup, Scott Landis, Jace Creswell and Jason Smith.
Ricky Bender won the roadrunner feature over Keith Bissinger, Nathan Engle, Brandon Shultz and Tim Campbell.
IT’S ALL RAHMER AT LINCOLN
Fred Rahmer is making a laugher out of the 410 Sprint car season at Lincoln Speedway.
For the third time in six starts at the track, the Salfordville racer destroyed the field once again Saturday night for his 157th career track win. It was Rahmer’s sixth overall win in 2008.
This time Rahmer started 12th but took control at the midway point of the race and left the battle for the runner-up spot.
Jim Siegel finished three seconds off the pace in second with Doug Esh third, Cory Haas fourth and Nick Schlauch, Jr. fifth.
Dale Hammaker picked up the 20-lap 358 sprint car feature after leading early then retaking the lead after contact with Todd Rittenhouse, Jr. on lap 17.
Hammaker then drove to the win over Bob Anderson, Jr., Dillsburg’s Scott Geesey, Brian Eichelberger and Gerald McIntyre, Jr. Gardners driver Jay Galloway finished 20th.
Duane Watson was the thundercar winner for the second time this season winning over Sam Gallagher, Scott Fisher, Hurricane Menges and Ronnie Thomas.
DEESE BACKS UP WIN
After ending a three year winless streak last week, Roy Deese Jr. returned to Hagerstown Speedway victory lane for the second straight week Saturday night.
Deese stormed from his 12th starting spot to take the lead with three laps remaining to pick up the win in the 25-lap late model feature.
Deese, a five time track champion took the win over Nathan Durboraw, Kirk Ryan, Shermansdale’s Mike Lupfer and Alan Sagi.
Pete Weaver picked up the 20-lap late model sportsman win over Scott Palmer, Kyle Lear, Barry Miller and Terry Flaherty. Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard was eighth with team driver Shaun Jones 17th.
Hans Stamberg won the pure stock main over Bobby Taylor and Dean Holmes while Mark Vegh defeated Carlisle’s Matt Smith to win the Enduro Dash.
GUTSHALL TOPS TRAILWAY
Shippensburg’s Dwayne Gutshall captured the 600 Micro Sprint win Saturday at Trail-Way Speedway.
Gutshall held off a late race challenge from Jim Brookens before taking the win over Jermain Godshall, Brent Marks, Tim Dietz and Jan Luckenbaugh.
Tanner Hunsicker captured the 270 Micro Sprint feature over Steve Daron, Todd Hoover, Steve Whary and Cody Phillips.
WITMER OPENS SUSKY WITH A WIN
Bud Witmer opened the Susquehanna Speedway Park season with a win in 358 late model competition Saturday night and survived a marathon of cautions before doing so.
Carlisle’s Carl Billet raced home second over Randy Christine Jr., Travis McClelland and John Baker. Shermansdale’s Jake Jones was 13th.
Eric Walker scored the win in street stock action over Newville’s Wes Alleman, Joey Hoffer, Paul Morgan and Joe Whitely.
Ray Broderick was the Extreme Stock car winner while Randy Monroe scored the ARDC Midget feature win over Brett Arndt, PJ Gargiulo, Frank Polimeda and Andy Martin.
OTHER RESULTS
Jeremy Miller, of Gettysburg captured a career first World of Outlaws late models feature win Friday night at Virginia Motor Speedway after a gallant drive by the Outlaws’ top drivers. Miller, one of the area’s finest late model racers, picked up $10,650, which included a first-time WoO Bonus Bucks $500 prize for the highest finishing driver without a WoO win. He defeated Steve Francis, Josh Richards, Clint Smith and Shane Clanton.
Dave Ely opened the 2008 URC Sprint car season with a win Saturday night at Bridgeport Speedway as he led the entire 25-lap distance. Mark Bitner finished second over defending champ Curt Michael, Chris Coyle and Jason Clauss.
Clanton won a hard-fought battle with Billy Decker to win Saturday night’s MACS Series late model feature at Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, Md. Clanton’s $5,000 win came over Decker, Tim Fuller, Mike Balzano and Jeremy Miller.
Friday night racing at Williams Grove, Trail-Way and Path Valley Speedway’s was all rained out. Path Valley was scheduled to use a Sunday rain date.
