Nunez scores seven goals for Herd
Carlisle girls’ lacrosse put on an offensive show Monday.
The Thundering Herd won 14-7 over Ephrata and were led by Emily Nunez, who scored seven times for Carlisle. Hannah Wimer finished the day with four goals of her own and Dakota McCoy, Kelsie Madden, and Ally Brehm, all tallied a goal. Jess Donnell finished the game with 17 saves.
Boys’ Lacrosse
Carlisle 14, Bishop McDevitt 2
Six and four goals by Tim Margeson and Colin Shevlin respectively carried Carlisle to a 14-2 win over visiting Bishop McDevitt. Chase West added two tallies with Tyler Getz and Elliot Metzger adding a goal apiece. Shevlin recorded 3 assists, with Andrew Bolan and Cory Hartung posting one each. Chris Dymski recorded 5 saves in goal.
In JV action, five goals by Daniel Bolan carried the Herd over the Crusaders 10-1. Carlisle (5-3, 3-0 Mid-Penn) entertains Mercersburg Academy Wednesday.
Girls’ Soccer
Camp Hill 2, Big Spring 1
Camp Hill edge Big Spring 2-1 in girls’ soccer.
The Bulldogs took the early lead thanks to Megan Kuntz, but Kate Kroll tied it up for the Lions. In the second half, Molly Gilroy put in the game-winning goal.
Boys’ Tennis
Harrisburg Academy 7, East Pennsboro 0
Harrisburg Acadmey boys’ tennis improved to 7-0 on the season with a 7-0 win over East Pennsboro Monday. The win sets up a showdown with Trinity Wednesday, which features the tough Nick Shadowen.
But on Monday, it was all Harrisburg Academy. Andrew Kantor defeated Andrew Deckert 6-2, 6-0, while Doug Caplan won 6-2, 6-0 over Brice Morey. Andrew Jagannath won 6-1, 6-4 over Marc Wagner. Ted Ott defeated Dante Ngo 6-4, 6-3, Steven Pecht won 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 over Andrew Chan. In doubles, Kantor/Caplan downed John Price/Zach Zerby 6-0, 6-1. Jagannath/Otto won 6-0, 6-2 over Owen Clay/Logan McGeehan.
Northern 4, Biglerville 3
Northern edged out Biglerville Monday 4-3 in boys’ tennis.
BJ Bush won 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, while Kyle Scwille won came back to win 2-6, 6-0, 7-5. Sam Calabria and Jared Meyer won 6-2, 7-5 in No. 2 doubles. Bush and Grant Cole won No. 1 doubles 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Cedar Cliff 7, Carlisle 0
Cedar Cliff blanked Carlisle 7-0 Monday.
Matt Miller won 6-1, 6-0 over Nick Bloom, while Joey Fortenbaugh downed Mike Balzitti 6-2, 6-0. Kevin Ortenzio beat Dan Mootz 6-3, 6-2 and Wade Caldwell defeated Colin Gelbaugh 6-0, 6-0.
Miller and Fortenbaugh won 8-2 over Bloom and Mootz. Chris Wright and Tom Teson scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over John Estes and Dan Caton. Brady Alford and Andrew Rearick won 6-0, 6-1 over Zach Balwin-way and Pablo Torres.
Carson Long 7, Bible Baptist 0
Carson Long shut out Bible Baptist 7-0.
Chris Coderre fell 6-4, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, while Erik Bjornsen fell 7-5, 7-5 in No. 2 singles. Peter Park went up 2-6, but lost 6-3, 7-6 (13-11) to Travis Drost. Havilh Mohler lost 6-1, 6-2 to Christian Bibbo. Erin Kauffman lost 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, Mohler and Cameron Mayor lost 8-2, while Coderre and Bjornsen lost 8-3.
Palmyra 7, Susquenita 0
Palmyra shut out Susquenita 7-0 Monday.
Matt Adams beat Roger VanScyoc 6-0, 6-1. Andy Rosborough fell to 6-1, 6-4 and Kyle Kahl lost 6-4, 6-0. Dan Kuzo fell 6-2, 6-0 to Chad Meyer. In doubles, VanScyoc/Kuzo lost 8-1 to Schardt/Meyer. Zach Wakefield and Ryan Bratton fell 8-2 to Matt Szekeres and Kyle Maguire.
Softball
East Pennsboro 7, Northern 3
Becca Garlinger had another solid performance Monday in softball as East Pennsboro won 7-3 over Northern.
Garlinger went 4-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Her teammate Ashley Marsh threw all seven innings, striking out four. Lindsay Murray went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double. For Northern, Karissa Thomas had a double and was 2-for-4.
Waynesboro 13, Susquenita 1
Susquenita never recovered after giving up a four-run third inning to Waynesboro. The Blackhawks eventually lost 13-1. Shauna Deschenes scored Susquenita’s only run in the sixth inning and went 1-for-3.
Central Dauphin 10, Red Land 0
Central Dauphin handed Red Land a 10-0 loss Monday.
Red Land only managed two hits against the Rams. Liz Christiansen and Jess Litten both connected. Alex Boyd picked up the loss, going five innings, and striking out four.
Cumberland Valley 5, C.D. East 4
Cumberland Valley scored four runs in the fourth inning to compete the comeback 5-4 against C.D. East.
Kaitlin Kramer was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings and giving up six hits and four runs. Courtney Simpson, Falicia Witmer, Karina Bolster, Amber Brookhart, and Courtney Bush all scored for the Eagles. Shippensburg 6, West Perry 0
Shippensburg shut out West Perry 6-0 in softball action.
Brooke Varner went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Greyhounds and scored two runs. She also recorded a triple and two RBIs. Christine Boyd went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
James Buchanan 8, Trinity 2
Trinity fell to James Buchanan 8-2 Monday thanks to seven runs in the final two innings by the Rockets.
Trinity’s Kaitlyn Keefer finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Shamrocks. Caroline Lapano was 2-for-2 at the plate.
Lower Dauphin 15, Mechanicsburg 0
Mechanicsburg didn’t register a hit Monday in a 15-0 loss to Lower Dauphin.
It was all Falcons, who recorded 11 hits in the game. Lisa Mannion got the loss with 3 innings pitched and 10 hits surrendered.
Chambersburg 4, Cedar Cliff 0
Chambersburg scored three runs in the third inning on its way to a 4-0 shutout over Cedar Cliff.
The Colts couldn’t score on their five hits. Jessica Miller picked up the win for the Trojans, Miller struck out six Cedar Cliff batters.
Baseball
Trinity 5, James Buchanan 4
Trinity edged James Buchanan 5-4 in baseball. Brendon King scored two runs and went 2-for-3. Mike Hychko also went 2-for-3. Mike Hnatuck was the winning pitcher.
Big Spring 14, Carlisle 6
Big Spring beat Carlisle 14-6 Monday in baseball. JC Miller went 2-for-4, while Travis Barht was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Bill Campbell went 2-for-5 for the Bulldogs.
Jimmy Craine finished 3-for-4 for the Thundering Herd.
Cumberland Valley 10, C.D. East 5
Cumberland Valley traded scores with C.D. East before pulling away 10-5.
The Eagles’ Drew Kramer was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a home run, while teammate Brian Belinskas recorded a triple. Jeremy Read got the win on the mound, throwing six innings and striking out six.
Boiling Springs 14, Steel-High 0
Boiling Springs pounded Steel-High 14-0 in four innings Monday in baseball action.
John Bixler finished with five RBIs and had a double and a homer. Mike Myers had two triples and finished 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.
Greencastle 3, Camp Hill 2
Greencastle’s Cole Sellers cracked a two-run home run, and starter Alex Izer added a solo shot in the third inning as Greencastle defeated Camp Hill 3-2.
Izer also picked up the victory throwing six innings, striking out three and walking two. Tyler Shover finished 2-for-3 for the Lions who dropped to 4-4 overall.
Northern 4, East Pennsboro 3
Despite giving up two runs in the fifth, Northern held on for the 4-3 victory against East Pennsboro.
Hank Sanders went 2-for-4 for the Polar Bears with a double, run scored, and an RBI. Cameron Richardson picked up the win for Northern on the mound. Richardson struck out 11.
