VIDEO: Cyber school students change gears for 'Robo-ball'
Cyber school students from the Commonwealth Connections Academy worked in teams to create robots good enough to lift, throw and just about anything that would give them a step above their competitors.
The students are a part of the Lego Robotics Club from the CCA, which has an office in Mechanicsburg and serves as an online school in Pennsylvania for children from kindergarten to 11th grade. The "Robo-ball" event pitted students from any grade level against others in the region to play a board game involving getting ping pong balls onto a higher level "basket."
Students were given 3 hours to design and construct their robots, and while there were not many restrictions on what they could do, most would be competing with robots they could not control via a remote control.
Students and their family members, along with the help of CCA teachers, would input directions from a laptop to the robot, which would tell the robots where to go on the game board without pressing any buttons.
The students started at 9 Saturday morning at the community center at the Giant in Camp Hill and continued to compete until 3 p.m.
