A 17-year-old girl was cited for a traffic violation after she hit a telephone Sunday in Watts Township, Perry County, according to state police at Newport.

The girl, of New Buffalo, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier on Spinning Wheel Road about 1,000 feet west of Creek Road at 8 a.m. when she failed to make a left turn due to speed and hit the pole, police said.

She wore a seat belt and was taken to Holy Spirit Hospital with minor injuries, police said. Hospital staff reported Monday morning that she had been treated and released.
