Entertainment, food, games scheduled for Jubilee Day
Music and entertainment from two stages will surround patrons at the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce’s 80th annual Jubilee Day on Thursday.
The one-day street fair runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. along Main Street and is sponsored by AmeriChoice FCU.
The event features food from local businesses, games, amusement rides and an area for the children behind Citizen’s Bank. The play area is free, along with the live entertainment, admission and shuttle bus parking, which will take visitors to Main Street from Mechanicsburg Area High School and Immanuel Alliance Church at 800 S. Market St.
“It is a great, affordable family outing,” said Jeff Palm, executive director of Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce. “You can spend all day there.”
Palm expects about 60,000 people to attend the festival on Thursday, and more than 50 different food vendors will be available on Main Street.
The borough and its police department aided the chamber in its efforts to put together the event, and while Main Street Mechanicsburg has taken over organizing many of the borough’s events, Palm said the chamber will continue to plan Jubilee Day, which is the organization’s biggest fund-raiser of the year.
Jubilee Day spans about one-and-a-half blocks from the square in either direction of Main Street, and a few booths will also be located on Market Street. The Mechanicsburg Museum Association on North Market Street will have an exhibit on past exhibits as well as on antique automobiles.
Police will close Main Street from Walnut Street to York Street and Market Street from Simpson Street to Strawberry Avenue from 5 a.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday. Parking will be restricted in a large number of areas. Police also warn that illegally parked cars will be towed.
