Herr gets monkey off his back
Frankie Herr finally got the monkey off his back at Williams Grove Speedway.
With time trials setting the field for Saturday night’s Super Sportsman feature at Williams Grove Speedway, the Carlisle driver was able to get an up front starting spot for a change and easily turned that into his first win of the season.
Herr has led the points all season, relegating him to difficult starting spots and with passing conditions not always ideal for coming to the front, Herr has found the going tough this season finding his way to victory lane.
He dominated Saturday night’s 20 lap feature in his win over Dillsburg’s Rich Eichelberger, Enola’s John Stoner, Paul Miller and Bobby Hockenberry. Dillsburg’s Aaron Eichelberger finished ninth and Mechanicsburg’s Derek Locke 10th.
Hanover’s Bobby Beard made it four wins in 358 late model competition, coming from 12th starting spot to win over Randy Croop, Derrick Zirkle, DJ Mease and Craig Wagaman.
Mark Digges was the 4-cylinder feature winner over Kevin Thomas, Dave Leidy, Ed Hollenbach and Gary Kreiser while Chris Heller won the Enduro over Sam Rial, Craig Imes, Adam Yetter and Mark Krone.
BIZZARE NIGHT AT LINCOLN
After two successive thunderstorms flooded Lincoln Speedway Saturday night, the track endured a three hour rain delay then the 410 Sprint feature turned the night into one of the most bizarre ever at the track.
Three red flags waved during the first two laps of the 410 Sprint car feature.
Bob Howard and Chris Weiss were involved in a double flip on the initial start then on the restart, a triple flip involving Brian Montieth, Aaron Ott and AJ Michael brought out a red. Pat Cooper, who was leading flipped on the second lap.
Craig Keel took the lead on lap three and led until lap 22 when a failed slide job by Cris Eash sent both cars to the pits and gave Mike Bittinger the lead who then held on over the final three laps for a career first win at Lincoln.
Niki Young finished second over Adam Lawrence, Nick Schlauch, Jr. and Scott Geesey. Only eight cars finished the marathon event.
Due to the length of the 410 event and the lateness of the show, the 358 Sprint and thundercar features were both postponed. The 358 Sprint main will be made up this Saturday night.
HEIMBACH ON TOP AT SELINSGROVE
Blane Heimbach’s fourth win of the year at Selinsgrove Speedway put the young racer into a tie with Chad Layton for the track’s all time winningest 358 sprint car driver with 25 career wins.
Heimbach took the lead on lap eight of the 25 lap event and was on his way to setting a new 25 lap track record but a last lap yellow flag took away that chance.
Heimbach was victorious over Brian Nornhold with points leader Pat Cannon driving his brother Steve’s car to a third place finish after motor problems put the Highlands sprinter in the trailer for the night. Fourth went to Nate Snyder over Chris Borich.
Eric Hons won his first late model feature since 2005 taking the checkered flag over Jeff Smith, Steve Campbell, Tony Adams and Coleby Frye.
Chad Davis was the pro stock winner while Doug Minium, Sr. won the roadrunners.
DIETRICH TOPS TRAIL-WAY
Danny Dietrich raced to his first win of the year Friday night in the 25-lap 358 Sprint car feature at Trail-Way Speedway.
Dietrich started sixth and was the class of the field in the win over his older brother Billy with Jeff Rohrbaugh, Steve Owings and Brad McClelland completing the top five.
Will Walls set a new track record in his thundercar win over brother Brian, Todd Miller, Rick Weaver and Bobby Beard. Walls’ new 20 lap time was 6:13.14.
Trail-Way was rained out on Saturday night.

Hartman led the first 16 laps before giving way to Jimmy Owens before retaking the lead on lap 40 and driving off for the win.
Owens, Josh Richards, Earl Pearson, Jr. and Steve Francis were the top five finishers. Gary Stuhler was the only Hagerstown regular in the top 10, finishing seventh.
