Russ Mitten survived a host of crashes and turned a late-race pass into his first victory of the season in Saturday night Super Sportsman action at Williams Grove Speedway.

Mitten, of Newville, started eighth in the 24-car field and missed multiple crashes during the event.

A six-car pile up at the start of the feature brought out a red flag and then with three laps remaining in the 20-lap feature, Steve Fannasy took a wild flip that collected his brother Jay, who was later transported to the hospital for possible neck and back injuries.

Mitten used the ensuing restart to drive by rookie driver Dylan Cisney and onto his first win since the 2005 racing season in his unsponsored RPM No. 77 chassis.

Cinsey held on for the runner-up spot followed by John Stoner, Duaine Smith and Mike Enders with David Socks III, Carlisle’s Frankie Herr and Jake Raudabaugh, Doug Hendricks and Leroy Martin the top 10 finishers.

Gene Knaub also survived a big pile up at the start of the 358 late model feature and drove to his fourth win of the year in the 20-lap event over Craig Wagaman, Newville’s Dave Sokoloski, Zach Kauffman and Jared Miller.

Kevin Sigler took the street stock feature win over Doug Hoffman, Kory Sites, Dave Motter and Kevin Wirt while Dave Leidy won the 4-cylinders over John Stoll, Jr. and Brian Wentzel.

CANNON BACK IN WINNING FORM

Etters driver Pat Cannon returned to Selinsgrove Speedway victory lane Saturday night with his fifth win of the season in 358 Sprint car action.

Cannon missed a big crash on the start of the feature and moved the Zane and Vicki Highlands owned sprinter from 11th starting spot into the lead on lap 17, passing Chad Trout for the top spot

Cannon added to his season long points lead after points runner-up and six-time winner Blane Heimbach was involved in a first lap crash and was out for the night. Cannon led Heimbach by 130 points entering the night and there are two points race remaining this season.

Colby Womer finished second with Steve Cannon third over Larry Kelleher and Trout.

Jeff Smith picked up his third late model win over Brett Schadel, Jeff Rine, Coleby Frye and Bryan Bernheisel.

Troy Miller won the street stock feature over AJ Hoffman and Scott Spahr while Ricky Bender defeated Keith Bissinger and Eric Pinkerton for the roadrunner win.

PORT GOES TO MARK SMITH

Mark Smith took the lead on lap 18 of Saturday night’s 25-lap 410 Sprint car feature at Port Royal Speedway and turned it into his fourth win of the season.

Smith, of Selinsgrove then held off Greg Hodnett, who raced most of the race with a broken front wing for the win. Third went to Rick Lafferty, who led laps two through 17 with 2008 Port Royal Speedway track champion Todd Shaffer crossing fourth in the Gary and Patty Beam owned No. 88. Fifth went to Dillsburg’s John Westbrook.

Shaffer’s championship was his fourth career, his last coming in the 2003 racing season.

Jere Wierman won his first 20-lap late model feature of the season over Bob Dunn, Tim Gray, Eric Zembower and Tim Wilson while Derick Garman captured the pro stock win over Brian Towsey, Tim Krape, Terry Naugle and Dan Berry.

LAST LAP WIN FOR SPENCE

J.T. Spence made a final turn pass Saturday night at Hagerstown Speedway and turned it into his first late model win of the season.

Spence, the defending track champion, made a bid around leader Gary Stuhler, who got pinned in behind a lapped car and won a drag race with Stuhler to the checkered flag to become the 14th different winner of the season.

Stuhler settled for second over Darryl Hills, Roy Deese, Jr. and Shermansdale’s Mike Lupfer.

Shippensburg’s Ashley Barrett collected his third win of the season in the late model sportsman feature after starting 12th. His win came over Dylan Yoder, Andy Fries, Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard and Barry Miller.

Hans Stanberg scored the pure stock win over Andy Holmes and Dale Hollidge.

Mark Vegh won the Enduro with Carlisle’s Matt Smith fifth.

DIETRICH RETURNS TO WIN

After being shut out of victory lane since winning the season opener at Trail-Way Speedway, Bill Dietrich returned for his second 358 Sprint car win of the season Friday night.

Dietrich took the lead after Dale Hammaker dropped from competition and defeated young Kyle Moody, Jeff Rohrbaugh, Davie Franek and Doug Hammaker.

Will Walls won the thundercar feature over Justin Mong, Brad Shank, Allen Cullum and Barry Rinehart.

POTTS TAKES SUSKY

Charles Potts drove to his second win of the year in 358 late model action at Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday.

Potts took the win over young Travis McClelland, Shermansdale’s Jake Jones, Carlisle’s Carl Billet and Cam Zeigler.

Jimmy Slaseman won the regular street stock feature over Dustin Hollinger and Dave Thompson while Eric Walker won the makeup street stock event from June 28 over George Eash and Bryan Shue.

OTHER WEEKEND ACTION

Rookie driver David Gravel captured his first career URC Sprint win Saturday night at Delaware International Speedway. Gravel, who makes the long two from Connecticut every weekend to race with URC defeated Randy West, Becca Anderson, Joey Biasi and Ryan Bohlke.

Jeff Rine won his fourth late model feature of the year Friday at Bedford Speedway over Scott Haus, Randy Burkholder, Scott Rhodes and Wayne Johnson. Tim Smith, Jr. was the limited late model winner over Derek Byler, Brian Lowery, Donnie Farling and Howie Bussard.

Lance Dewease scored his second win of the year in O’Reilly All Star Sprint action with a Saturday night win at Michigan’s Butler Battlegrounds Speedway. Dewease gained a few points on Dale Blaney for the championship with Blaney finishing second in the feature. Lee Jacobs, Danny Smith and Blake Feese were the top five.

Brad Weber won the 600 Micro sprint main Saturday at Trail-Way Speedway over Jim Brookens, Brent Marks, Isaac Sneeringer and Tim Dietz while Sean McAndrew was the 270 winner over Jim Still, Bill Laughman, Cody Phillips and Tim McClelland.

Boiling Springs racer Craig Laudermilch won Friday night’s PA 305 Sprint car main at Path Valley Speedway over Michael Wagner, Michael Heckman, Todd Spangler and Jim Kennedy while Tim Mertz defeated Ryan Greth and Jason Morrison in the 1000 Sidewinder Sprints. Tyler DeVault won the 600 micro sprint main over Jim Brookens, Shippensburg’s Dwayne Gutshall, Richie Fitz and Eric Bodine while Ryan McAndrew won the 270 Micros over Sean McAndrew and Steve Whary. Dave Leidy won the Wes Scofield memorial for mini stocks and Ken Lawrence, Jr. won the Wes Scofiedl Memorial for thundercars.

Bo Gordon was back in victory lane Saturday at Shippensburg Speedway after another win in 600 Micro sprint action over Dave Thrush, Jeremy Glass, Brandon Yarlett and Kenny Harris. Other track winners were R.T. Bulger in the thundercars, Eddie Kirby in mini stocks and Jeremy Eutzy in slick track.
