Charges based on stimulus check
A local man was charged with one count of forgery and three counts of theft relating to a federal stimulus check, according to Middlesex Township police.
The wife of James Childs IV reported on Aug. 13 that Childs forged her name and cashed her check, keeping the money for himself, police said. She also reported he took the $600 that was for the two children, police said.
Childs, 29, of Monarch Drive, Carlisle, admitted to stealing and forging the check, police said.
Two injured in crash
Andrew R. Pugh and Edwin R. Cain were injured in a Lower Allen Township crash Saturday, according to state police at Harrisburg.
Cain, 48, of Camp Hill, was driving a 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK 430 south on Interstate 83 at 8:50 a.m. when he changed lanes and hit a 1999 Ford Contour driven by Pugh, 41, of Mechanicsburg, police said. The impact forced the Contour into the concrete barrier, and Cain’s vehicle went off the interstate to the right and landed on church property on its roof.
Debris from the initial impact traveled to the northbound lanes and smashed the windshield of a 2006 Nissan Altima driven by Judy L. Ramsey, 47, of New Cumberland, police said.
Cain had a minor injury, police said, and Pugh was taken to Harrisburg Hospital with moderate injuries.
All parties involved wore seat belts, police said, and no airbags deployed.
Cain was cited for a traffic violation, police said.
Cell phone stolen
A cell phone and charger were reported stolen from a rest room Sunday in Penn Township, Perry County, according to state police at Newport.
The theft happened at Riverfront Campground in the first block of Newport Road between 12:15 and 1 a.m., police said.
Burglary suspect in intensive care
Barry Lee Allison, 44, of Chambersburg was in intensive care at Chambersburg Hospital after he ingested an unknown quantity of pills, police said.
The pills were stolen from a residence in the 1600 block of Hawthorne Lane in Guilford Township, Franklin County, between 2:30 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. Thursday, according to state police at Chambersburg.
Allison entered a residence using a key hidden outside the home while the occupant was sleeping and removed medications prescribed to the occupant, police said. Allison ingested unknown quantities of pills and was found by the occupant unconscious on the kitchen floor, according to police.
Allison was transported to Chambersburg Hospital by Chambersburg EMS, police said.
Charges of burglary and theft have been filed against Allison, according to police.
Purse stolen from car
A purse was stolen from a car in the Sunnyway Markets parking lot in Hamilton Township, Franklin County, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to state police at Chambersburg.
After the victim placed her groceries and purse in her car and went back to return her cart, an unknown white female entered the victim’s car and took the purse, police said.
The woman was described as thin with shoulder-length brown hair and in her mid-20s, according to police. The woman fled in a dark green Hyundai with an off-white passenger door, police said.

Stolen license plate discovered
A man faces charges of receiving stolen property after an officer discovered the registration plate on his vehicle was reported stolen.
State police at Carlisle said they stoppedChristopher Spacht, 42, of Tyrone, at 8:59 a.m. on Interstate 81 south in Dickinson Township. He was also charged with driving while suspended, not wearing a seat belt, an insurance violation and unauthorized use or transfer of registration.
Teens took grandmother’s car
Two teenagers were arrested after an officer noticed a 2009 Toyota Camry being driven without headlights at 4:19 a.m. Sunday on H Street, according to Carlisle police.
The car coasted to a stop after the teens bailed out of it, police said, causing minor damage to a property in the 100 block of H Street. One teen was apprehended on the site and the other came back while police were still there, they said.
Investigation revealed that one of the teens took a grandmother’s car while she was sleeping and picked up a friend in Carlisle, driving around until police noticed them. The teens were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, violating curfew and driving without a license. They were released to parents and guardians, police said.
Domestic violence charged
A Harrisburg man was charged with simple assault domestic violence, false imprisonment, harassment and disorderly conduct after an incident Friday.
Carlisle police say Hakeem Hanif Rahman, 18, pulled a 29-year-old woman into a home, threatened her with a knife and, when she broke free, chased her down and was dragging her back to the home when officers arrived. The incident happened at 8 p.m. in the 300 block of North West Street, police said.
Rahman, of the first block of Thomas Street, Harrisburg, was denied bail and remained in Cumberland County Prison Monday morning.
Burglary reported in Carlisle
Someone entered a home in the first block of Walnut Street between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Thursday while the resident was on the second floor and took cash from a purse that was on a kitchen counter, according to Carlisle police.
Police said the burglar entered through a rear door, and the resident noticed the screen door was propped open when she returned downstairs.
Thief tried to take air conditioner
Someone pulled an air conditioner unit out of a living room window at 1:40 a.m. Sunday, in the 200 block of West North Street, according to Carlisle police.
The unit was recovered on the sidewalk, police said.
Calls reported on stolen phone
A woman who said she mislaid her cell phone at the Wal-Mart on Noble Boulevard about 5 p.m. Friday reported someone began making calls with it about an hour later, according to Carlisle police.
The phone is a silver Samsung flip-style with an external screen.
