Thefts reported in Carlisle
A number of thefts have been reported in Carlisle recently, according to Carlisle police.
A man said he was shopping on East High Street about 5 p.m. Monday when a black male wearing cargo shorts and a white T-shirt picked his pocket. A blue nylon wallet containing $24, Virginia identification and a debit card were taken, police said, and the thief fled in as a white four-door Pontiac or Buick with dark fenders and a dark hood.
A man reported Monday that two mountain bikes had been taken from his fenced back yard in the 100 block of West North Street in the previous two days, police said. One bike was yellow and the other was blue, police said, and both were valued at $75.
A garden hose was reported stolen from the back of a rental property in the 600 block of West Louther Street between 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, police said.
A Pennsylvania safety inspection sticker and emission inspection sticker were stolen from a blue Plymouth minivan parked at the rear of a property in the 300 block of North Hanover Street between noon and 4 p.m. Friday. There was no other damage to the vehicle or property, police said.
Three arrested after pot find
Three men were arrested Thursday after a search of a home in the first block of Fairfield Street turned up several pounds of marijuana, a Glock handgun and a large amount of currency, according to court papers.
In arrest documents filed with Cumberland County Magisterial District Judge Susan Day, Detective Keith Seibert of the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office wrote that the search also yielded packing material and scales.
Three men — Spencer Debrett Cunningham, 21, of the 200 block of Marion Street, Carlisle; Gregory E. Kell, 25, of the Fairfield Street property; and Jordan Torray Stever, 22, of the 400 block of North West Street, Carlisle — were inside the home at the time, Seibert wrote.
Kell said he was the tenant, Seibert wrote, and Stever was in possession of the currency. A check on the handgun revealed that it had been reported stolen, Seibert wrote.
All three were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia; and receiving stolen property. They were lodged in Cumberland County Prison on $100,000 bail. Their preliminary hearings were set for 1:45 p.m. today.
$500 stolen from wallet
A woman from Newport reported that $500 was stolen from her wallet between 5 p.m. Aug. 12 and 3 p.m. Aug. 13, according to state police at Newport.
The theft happened in the 5100 block of Middle Ridge Road in Juniata Township, Perry County, police said.
Police seek burglary witness
North Middleton Township police continue to investigate a home burglary in the 900 block of Hamilton Street that was reported July 29.
Many items were taken from the home, police said, and they have been unable to reach Daniel A. Hafer, a resident of Newville and Harrisburg, who they say is a potential witness to the crime.
Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call 243-7910.
Teen charged over pellet gun
A 14-year-old boy was charged with criminal mischief after he discharged a pellet gun in the direction of a property in South Middleton Township at 2 p.m. Sunday, according to state police at Carlisle.
The pellet damaged an upstairs bedroom window of a home in the 100 block of Andrew Court, police said.
Vehicle window shot
The rear passenger window of a vehicle in Perry County was shot with a BB gun Friday, according to state police at Newport.
The incident happened in the 1500 block of Peach Ridge Road in Saville Township between 6 and 10:50 p.m., police said.
iPod stolen
An Apple iPod and a car adapter and charger for it were taken from a vehicle parked in front of the owner’s home in Shippensburg Township, Cumberland County, according to state police at Carlisle.
The theft happened between 2:30 and 4 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Prince Street, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call 249-2121.
Man injured in crash
Richard Etters Jr. was taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center with injuries Sunday after his 1989 Chevy van hit guard wires and a post and flipped on its side, according to North Middleton Township police.
The crash happened about 9 p.m. on Meadowbrook Road after Etters lost control, police said. The van was towed, police said. Etters was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday morning.
Parking reminder issued
The North Middleton Police department has issued a reminder that residents should not park their vehicles facing traffic on two-way highways.
The reminder is in accordance with Pennsylvania vehicle code, police say, which requires that parked vehicles have their right-hand wheels within 12 inches of the right-hand curb.
Assault count filed
Alexander Lee Brevik was arrested early Tuesday morning after a former girlfriend said he used a handgun to threaten her into not calling police, according to Carlisle police.
The 23-year-old woman said Brevik, 21, of the first block of West High Street, has been harassing and stalking her since their recent breakup, police said. The incident in question happened Aug. 19, police said, and Brevik was arrested without incident at 12:21 a.m. Tuesday.
Brevik is charged with simple assault, stalking, terroristic threats, intimidation of victim and harassment and was in Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail Tuesday morning, according to a prison spokesman.
Carlisle police chase thieves
A bicycle and a tricycle were recovered after a police chase, according to Carlisle police.
About midnight Sunday, a man came to the station to report that his bike had been taken from A Street while he was attending a meeting, police said. While the report was being taken, police located the bike being ridden near the area of West North Street and attempted to stop the rider during a brief chase on foot.
That rider and several others cut through yards in an attempt to evade police, and a bike and a full-sized adult Miami Sun tricycle were found near North Pitt Street after their riders ditched them, police said. Both riders were described as black males, police said, with one wearing a black T-shirt and black pants and the other wearing a white T-shirt and light blue shorts.
The man’s bike was returned to him, and the tricycle, which had also been reported stolen, was returned after being identified by its owner, police said.
Industrial accident fatal
Robert E. Strang, 58, of Waynesboro died in an industrial accident Monday at Nitterhouse Concrete Products, 2655 Molly Pitcher Highway in Chambersburg.
Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey Conner said the incident happened about 12:09 p.m. in the Hollow Core Building and that he pronounced Strang dead on the scene at 12:33 p.m. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday in Allentown.
Details of the incident will be released following the autopsy, Conner said. He noted that the incident is being investigated by his office and state police at Chambersburg and that OSHA has also been notified.
Man accused of faking crime scene
A man who reported he was assaulted faces charges after investigation revealed he made up the story and staged a crime scene by ransacking his own apartment, according to Mechanicsburg police.
David J. Herrold Jr., 30, of the first block of Main Street, Mechanicsburg, called 911 at 8:40 a.m. Aug. 17 and said he was assaulted after an unknown male knocked on his door and then ransacked the apartment, police said.
He is charged with false reports to law enforcement and tampering with and fabricating evidence, police said.
