Trinity girls win on the court

The Trinity girls’ volleyball team opened Week 2 of the season with a 3-0 victory over Northern on Monday. Game scores of the nondivision match were 25-17, 25-17, 25-18. The Shamrocks were led statistically by Jennifer Zielonis with 10 digs. Maureen Reilly finished with two aces and six kills, and five digs. Erica Dickey had four aces, six digs, and two kills.

Trinity travels to James Buchanan today.

Bible Baptist 3, York County Tech 0

Bible Baptist improved to 4-1 on the season with a 3-0 win over York County Tech in girls’ volleyball. Anna Gaudio finished the match with nine kills for the Bobcats.

Field Hockey

Red Land 2, Northern 1

Red Land downed Northern in field hockey Monday by a scored of 2-1.

The Patriots jumped out first with a goal by Samantha Merkt but Northern answered back with a score by Danielle Kauffman on a pass from Emily Gamber.

However, Red Land put the game-winning goal in during the second half. Michelle Guldner scored to the difference maker. The Polar Bears put up 25 shots but Red Land keeper Elaina White finished with 24 saves to keep her team out in front.

Boys’ Soccer

Greencastle 1, Boiling Springs 0

Greencastle blanked Boiling Springs at home Monday 1-0.

The Blue Devils scored with just 45 seconds left in the first half and that was all they needed. Kyle Crider scored the game’s only goal. The Bubblers put up 13 shots on keeper Seth Sprague, while Greencastle had 12 shots on Brad Schaufert, who saved 12 of them.

Mechanicsburg 2, Gettysburg 1

Gettysburg took an early lead, but Mechanicsburg answered with two straight goals to win 2-1 Monday in boys’ soccer action.

Zach Tarbox gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead before Andrew Bohn scored to tie the game. In the second half, Matt Steele put the Wildcats on top on a penalty kick. Mechanicsburg improves to 3-2 overall.

Girls’ Tennis

Red Land 7, Susquenita 0

Red Land shut out Susquenita 7-0 in tennis Monday.

Kyla Struncis downed Kasia Slezak 6-4, 6-3 in No. 1 singles while Abby Vassar won 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles, Morgan Bann downed Marissa Mathieu 6-4, 6-4 and Jenna Cavrich won 6-1, 6-1 over Susie Knepp. In doubles, Struncis and Cavrich won 7-7 (7-5) and Danielle Roher and Emma Shirey won 6-0, 6-2. In No. 3 doubles, Morgan Bissett-Tessier and Tori Moore won 6-2, 6-2.

Mid-Penn Golf

Bishop McDevitt took the team score at the West Shore Country Club in Mid-penn Golf action. The Crusaders finished with a team-best 408. Mechanicsburg was second at 439, Susquehanna Twp. was third with a 443. East Penn finished with a 466 and Red Land had a 503. David Slagle of Mechanicsburg had an area-best 78. Kevin Ellison of McDevitt shot a individual-best 77.
