Bill and Karen Richie of Mechanicsburg are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer, to Braden Smith of Belmont, N.C.

The bride-to-be is a 2003 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School and a 2007 graduate of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in exercise science. She is currently pursuing an associate degree in nursing at the Carolinas College of Health Science with the goal of becoming a registered nurse. She is employed by the Carolinas Healthcare System.

The future groom is the son of Jeff and Carol Smith of Bethel Park. He graduated from Penn State in 2006 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and now teaches third grade at Forest Heights Elementary School in the Gaston County (N.C.) School District.

The wedding is being planned for June 19, 2009, at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Boiling Springs.
