Trinity halfback/safety Christian Kuntz, who verbally committed to play football for Penn State University next fall, learned Monday that he tore his MCL on Saturday during the Shamrocks' 31-14 win over Middletown.
Kuntz, at the end of a 46-yard run, was taken down from behind and fumbled. The senior didn't return.
Trinity coach Jeff Boger said Monday night that Kuntz is out for the final three regular season games and likely done for the rest of the season.
Kuntz led the Shamrocks with 728 rushing yards - good for third in the area - and scored 13 touchdowns. As a safety, Kuntz had two interceptions Saturday and threw an 80-yard touchdown to Ted Spinelli on a trick play to give Trinity a 7-0 lead on the first play from scrimmage.
Despite the nice offensive numbers, the loss will most likely be felt more heavily in the secondary.
"Defensively right now we're not sure how we'll move people around," said Boger, who confirmed Jimmy Heikel will take over for Kuntz in the backfield. "... Defense is where we'll have to tweak things to see who we'll put at safety."
Trinity hosts Steelton-Highspire (7-0) Friday before closing out the regular season with Palmyra (4-3) and at Milton Hershey (2-5).
Trinity, which is seeded third in the District 3-AA power points, was ranked No. 9 in the Pennsylvania Football News state rankings last week.
