Man dies in tractor mishap

A Waynesboro man died from multiple blunt force trauma Tuesday after a tractor malfunctioned, said Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey Conner.

William J. Hunter, 78, “was the operator of a farm tractor with known mechanical problems,” Conner said in a news release. While connecting a wagon to a corn picker attached to the tractor, Conner said, the farmer saw the tractor starting to move forward and to get on it.

Conner said Hunter was knocked off or fell and the left rear tire rolled over him. The accident happened at 11:41 a.m. in a field near the 5000 block of Buchanan Trail East in the Waynesboro area. The coroner was notified at 11:48 a.m., Conner’s report said, and Hunter was pronounced dead at 12:17 p.m.


Driver hits cyclist

Denise Bowers, 26, of Carlisle, was arrested on multiple charges Thursday after she hit a cyclist with her car about 10:25 p.m. in the first block of West High Street.

Carlisle police said Bowers was driving under the influence of intoxicants, without insurance and with an expired vehicle inspection.

The cyclist, Mark Clark, 55, address unknown, suffered minor injuries, police said. He was treated at Carlisle Regional Medical Center and released.




Man charged after chase

Robert Lemaster, 51, of Liverpool was taken into custody Tuesday after leading police on a five-mile chase in Perry County, according to state police at Newport.

The chase began at 3:10 p.m. at Route 34 and wound through Juniata Parkway West, West Shortcut Road and Route 34 again before ending at Bucks Valley Road. when Lemaster backed into the front of a state police vehicle, police said.

Troopers were not injured, but Lemaster suffered a minor injury and the cruiser was damaged.

Lemaster was charged with fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, aggravated assault and other related charges, police said.




Gas taken from vehicles

About 100 gallons of gasoline were siphoned from multiple vehicles and pieces of farm equipment in Perry County, according to state police at Newport.

The thefts happened in the 200 block of Owl Hollow Road in Greenwood Township between 9:30 p.m. Oct. 29 and 7 a.m. Oct. 30, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the thefts to call 567-3110 and ask for Trooper Jeffrey Stine.




Tools, equipment stolen

Someone kicked in the back door of a newly constructed Penn Township home recently and stole various power tools, heaters and construction equipment, according to state police at Carlisle.

The burglary happened in the 700 block of Mt. Rock Road between 9 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, police said. They ask anyone with information to call 249-2121.




Man charged with theft

Jeremy Carroll Ritchie, 28, of Shermans Dale was charged with theft, criminal mischief and harassment after a 60-year-old man who said four aluminum wheels had been stolen from his yard followed Ritchie to a gas station and reclaimed them following a brief scuffle, according to state police at Newport.

The incident happened at 6:55 p.m. Oct. 30 in the 400 block of Youngs Church Road in Carroll Township, Perry County, police said.
