High School Football Headquarters: Wilson keeps trend alive in 35-7 win over Cumberland Valley (11 p.m. final update)
Bulldogs notch 3-AAAA title No. 4; three have been against CV.
High football writer Travis Pickens will be checking in with updates from Hersheypark Stadium throughout the day. Keep checking back for observations from the PIAA Class AA quarterfinal between Mount Carmel and Lancaster Catholic, which starts at noon, followed by CV's 3-AAAA title game against Wilson at 6 p.m.
11 p.m.
We hoped it would be close.
Most of us picked it as a single-digit final.
We didn't learn from history and it repeated itself.
We being the press corps. thought the District 3 Class AAAA final between No. 2 seed Cumberland Valley and top-seeded Wilson at Hersheypark Stadium on Saturday would be a classic.
Neither team had been tested in the playoffs, which made us believe this would be an epic, titantic clash.
It wasn't.
Wilson forced eight turnovers and rolled to a 35-7 win on a night CV coach Tim Rimpfel likened to a nightmare.
In hindsight, we should have seen this coming.
This decade there's only been two 3-AAAA title games decided in single digits and the 21-17 Bishop McDevitt win over State College in 2005 wasn't even that close until the Little Lions scored late.
The only other one was Central Dauphin's 35-33 win over Wilson in 2002.
The years prior to that saw CV win by 10 and 35 and Wilson by 47. In 1998 CV beat Central Dauphin, 14-10.
Of 24 3-AAAA title games, only 10 have been decided by single digits.
Unfortunately for CV on Saturday, history repeated itself.
After 12 hours, that's it for the live blog from Hersheypark Stadium. Send any feedback to us at sportsdoor@cumberlink.com or directly to me at tpickens@cumberlink.com and let us know your thoughts on today's effort to keep you, the fan, up to date on the happenings on the gridiron.
For more on the 3-AAAA title game check back later tonight or pick up a copy of The Sentinel on Sunday. Sam Butler took care of the game story, yours truly offered some commentary.
Have a good night and happy holidays.

It's a nice sized crowd and all the press corps are here. Myself and Sam Butler will bring you the coverage tonight and in Sunday's paper, we've got a quartet of writers from the Reading Eagle to our left, a pair from the Lancaster newspapers to the right and another quad grouping from the Patriots-News further down near the middle press box door.
It's a big-time atmosphere tonight in Hershey, let's hope the game lives up to the hype and expectations.
Winner is off to Altoona. Is that a good thing or bad?
5 p.m.
We're an hour from kickoff, the teams are on the field and the lights are on high above Hersheypark Stadium.

Some weather-related issues for this evening's 3-AAAA title game between CV (12-1) and Wilson (13-0).
The sun has gone behind the home stands and the wind is picking up a little.
The flags at the top of the visitor stands are pointing in the direction of the stage. That could be important if we have a close game into the fourth quarter.
Weather.com lists the temperature for kickoff at 40 degrees and party cloudy with winds out of the north/northeast at 3 miles per hour.
The outlook doesn't change much between 7 and 10 p.m. other than the temperature falling about five degrees.

That's two losses by a combined 73-14. Ouch.
For District 6, it's a case of what could have been. State College fell to Bethel Park, 17-14, in Class AAAA action and Central droppd a 21-19 decision to Wilmington in Class AA. Central scored with 34 seconds left and missed a 2-point coversion. The Scarlet Dragons recovered the onside kick but couldn't score.
The other District 6 team, Bishop McCort, imploded in the fourth quarter, allowing District 3 Class A winner and reigning PIAA champion Steelton-Highspire to score 21 of its points in the final frame of a 27-9 win.
11:15 a.m.
Good morning from Hersheypark Stadium, which luckily does not resemble Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona. There aren't five foot tall piles of snow ringing the field and the sun is shining brightly on the A-Turf. For the last weekend in November, it's a nice afternoon for football.
We're 45 minutes from the start of the AA game and the stands are fairly empty. The parking lot is a different story. Mount Carmel fans are out in force and appeared to have traveled well.
