Reporter's Notebook: Trailer drop lot approved for South Middleton Township
South Middleton Township supervisors have signed off on the final plan to build a trailer drop lot on the Pinto property along Allen Road and Interstate 81.
The plan was originally submitted by Nesbit Development to accommodate between 350 and 500 trailers and would be fenced in and secured. Access would be off Logistics Drive.
One of the concerns raised throughout the planning process was what to do about a deer herd that lives on or near the property, which is adjacent to the Exel Logistics site, where the deer herd has been of great concern.
Nesbit Development, led by Dave Nesbit of Mechanicsburg, had planned to build on the site from back to front, in an attempt to encourage deer to move on naturally. Nesbit said he had looked into relocating the deer but said that plan violated state Game Commission regulations because of the chance that any sick deer could contaminate the herd where the deer ended up, resulting the a considerable loss of wildlife.
Meanwhile, Nesbit has sold his interest in the plan to LIT developers, leaving Supervisor Tom Faley to worry what will happen to the deer.
Faley and the board urged Nesbit to encourage LIT to develop with the safety of the deer and residents in mind.
