The annual Herre Bros., Inc. Toys for Tots parade will include special guests this year.

The President’s United States Marine Corps. Ceremonial Color Guard and Bugler unit will kick off the parade, which begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at North 24th and Market streets in Camp Hill.

“It is something we have been wanting to get the Pentagon involved in for a long time and it is finally happening,” said Kathy Cadieux, creator of the Toys for Tots parade.

The parade was designed to promote and collect toys for the Toys for Tots program. Everyone who attends is asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the event. More than 2,500 toys were collected during last year’s parade.

The parade is expected to attract more than 5,000 spectators. As a result, Market and Walnut streets between 24th and 19th streets will be closed from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Traffic will be diverted around the parade on Chestnut Street and Route 15.

Multiple activities are being planned in conjunction with the parade.

Breakfast with Santa will begin at 9 a.m. with the Breach Foundation in Borough Hall. Storytelling with Santa and Mrs. Claus will begin at 1 p.m. at the Fredricksen Library. Arts and crafts for children will be offered at Camp Hill United Methodist Church on South 22nd Street. A holiday baking challenge will be held at the Pennsylvania Bakery.

In addition, the event will include a coloring contest, musical entertainers, strolling carolers and a ceremonial tree lighting ceremony with Grand Marshal Sen. Patricia Vance, R-31.

“We are very excited about the expansion of the parade day activities and our support from Rick McBride and Herre Bros. as our presenting sponsor,” said Camp Hill Mayor Lou Thieblemont. “Last year was a wonderful first year and, with the expanded activities, 2008 should be even better.”
