Weis Markets lowers, freezes prices for 90 days
Citing low consumer confidence and poor economic conditions, Weis Markets on Friday lowered prices on thousands of its staple items and implemented a 90-day price freeze on these items.
The price freeze is effective through April 1 and includes private label and brand name products in center store, frozen, dairy, produce, meat, deli and bakery.
“While our weekly promotions offer our customers an excellent way to save money and reduce their costs, we wanted to go the extra mile by freezing and lowering the prices on thousands of our staple items, both brand name and store brand, over the long-term for 90 days,” said Weis Markets President David J. Hepfinger.
In stores, customers will now find special Price Freeze shelf tags on participating items.
Reacting to the Weis announcement, Tracy Pawelski, a spokeswoman for Giant Food Stores, said her company will continue to maximize value for its customers.
“The proof is on the shelf,” she said. “Customers can compare how much they really save compared to other area grocers.”
On top of already low prices, Giant provides bonus buy savings on thousands upon thousands of items in its stores every day, she explained.
“Our success has always been pegged to our promise to deliver the best combination of quality, selection and savings every day,” Pawelski added. “Giant will remain a market leaders when it comes to price.”
Giant also offers a gas extra rewards program to its customers, which allows them to save money at the pump after earning points in the store.
