As the holiday season draws to a close, local municipalities are offering to help residents get rid of their Christmas trees.

Some municipalities plan to pick up trees from homes or have locations designated for residents to drop off their trees.

Here’s a brief summary of municipalities that will dispose of Christmas trees:

The Borough of Newville will collect trees at curbside today and Jan. 12, weather permitting. Residents should place their undecorated trees at the curb for collection either day.

In the borough of Carlisle, trees must be placed curbside and be free of all decorations and bags, since the trees will be recycled into mulch. Collections will be made on the following days: today and Jan. 12 for all areas north of Penn Street; Jan. 6 and 13 for all areas between Penn and South streets; and Jan. 7 and 14 for all areas south of South Street.

Curbside collection

Silver Spring Township will pick up trees today through Jan. 12. Residents should place their trees curbside and collections will occur the day after regular trash pick-up day. The collected trees will be taken to the township compost site for recycling.

South Middleton Township doesn’t pick up trees, but residents may take them to the township compost site on Lindsey Road.

Dickinson Township residents can drop their undecorated trees at the Stuart Park blacktop parking lot or bring them to the township building at 219 Mountain View Road during the normal business hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Do not place trees in bags.

East Pennsboro Township residents can place their undecorated trees where they put their trash and recyclables for pickup the weeks of Jan. 2 to Jan. 18 so the trees can be collected for mulch in township parks. Trees can also be dropped in the marked areas at 750 S. Humer St., Enola.

Middlesex Township plans to pick up trees throughout this month with regular trash pickup. Tags are not needed for trees.
