HONOLULU — A Hawaii-based soldier died in Iraq on New Year’s Eve after being shot by enemy forces.

The Pentagon said Monday that Pfc. Christopher W. Lotter of Chester Heights, Pa., died of wounds after being hit in Tikrit.

The 20-year-old Lotter was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.

U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii says Lotter joined the Army last January and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in June.
