A Shippensburg woman accused of attacking two police officers and two nurses on New Year’s Day was released from prison Monday and ordered to seek anger management counseling while she awaits a March court date.

Magisterial District Judge Vivian Cohick, working in place of Judge Harold Bender in Shippensburg, reduced bail for Alesha Renee Thomas from $50,000 to an unsecured bail figure of $25,000.

Thomas was charged Jan. 1 after her roommate at an apartment in the 300 block of East Fort Street complained to police that Thomas assaulted her.

The roommate told police she wanted help so she could retrieve her belongings and move out.

Police say that when two officers arrived, Thomas, 21, punched one in the face and kicked both in the face.

Thomas later bit one nurse and kicked another after she was taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center for treatment of a self-inflicted wound to her right leg.

Thomas’ attorney, public defender Anthony Adams, told Cohick Monday that Thomas is a senior at Shippensburg University with no previous record of legal trouble. Adams also said Thomas works two jobs to support herself.

Cohick agreed to the bail reduction but insisted that Thomas seek immediate counseling for anger management. She told Thomas to enroll in counseling within five days and provide proof of enrollment to the court.

Thomas faces formal arraignment in Cumberland County Court March 19 on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
