Boiling Springs wrestling takes Tool City; Mechanicsburg fourth in own tournament
Ean Starner and Joe Spisak took first place at 119 and 125, respectively, to help lead Boiling Springs to a first-place finish at the Tool City Tournament outside of Erie in Meadville.
Tyler Thumma at 130, Dakota Kuhn at 145, Mark Hammond at 160 and Sam Matter at 215 brought home second-place finishes.
The Bubblers finished with 170 team points while Erie Cathedral Prep, with 134.5, came in second.
Spisak handed hometown favorite Kasey Davis a 13-2 loss while Starner slipped by North East’s Christian Drain, 3-2.
Corey Matilla took a 1-0 decision from Clearfield’s Shawn Hill for third place at 171.
Mustangs stroll to Wildcat Duals title
Mechanicsburg went 2-3 at its inaugural Wildcat Duals for a fourth-place finish.
South Western posted a 5-0 mark on its way to the championship.
South Western’s closest dual was a second-round, 41-25 win over New Oxford.
Mechanicsburg beat Penn Manor and Neshaminy by identical 38-31 scores and fell to New Oxford, 38-18, Downingtown West, 48-30 and South Western, 50-9.
Commonwealth
Lower Dauphin 57, Red Land 15
Ben Cameron’s fall of Ryan Boline in 4:57 at 140 was one of the few bright spots for Red Land on Saturday morning as the Patriots fell, 57-15, to Lower Dauphin in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division dual meet.
Lee Hoover pinned Andrew Bath in 1:00 at 189 and Zach Sorenson beat Joe Scerbo, 10-5, at 215 to account for Red Land’s points.
Lower Dauphin (18-0, 4-0 division) posted four falls, three technical falls and two forfeits in the rout.
Red Land dipped to 2-5 overall, 1-3 in the Commonwealth.
